The presidency has shot down allegations that government wants to legalize homosexuality – A statement from the presidency says Nana Addo will never legalize same-sex marriage – Same-sex marriage is frowned against in Ghana despite no existing laws against the act President of the republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, has officially stated his position on the legalization of gay rights in Ghana. This brings to rest months of speculation and suspicion that the presidency is conspiring to legalize homosexuality. The president remains focused on delivering on his mandate and improving the quality of Ghanaian people. It will not be under his presidency that gay marriage will be legalized – Excerpts of the statement indicates

. Earlier on, the general secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah alleged that Nana Addo had chosen to ‘let men marry men and women marry women’ but the presidency described these allegations as false and vile.

Before this statement, the Statesman newspaper claimed on its online portal that the head of communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhim, was about issuing a press statement in this stead. “This website has gotten a press release signed by the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Mr. Eugene Arhin stating that the President hasn’t been a human rights advocate all his life is determined to once again make another emphatic human rights push for the legalization of same-sex through a series of processes and finally being passed by the Parliament of Ghana,” excerpts of the online newspaper revealed.

YEN.com.gh cannot confirm the truth of this report but it also raises questions about ongoing developments in the presidency regarding whether or not the government will be legalizing homosexuality. So far, the minister of information, Mustapha Hamid has stated that government has no interest in even raising the issue of homosexuality for discussion.
